Can't wait for IPL Season 13 yet? Here are some of the moments from IPL history that one can't forget.
From IPL's first match (KKR v RCB) in 2008 to Shane Watson batting with a bleeding knee against Mumbai Indians in IPL 12, this biggest cricket carnival has given us enough memorable moments through these years.
Chennai Super Kings were denied out of the tournament for 2 years but when they returned in 2018, fans of CSK were pretty emotional to watch their beloved team play again at the Chepauk Stadium. But even when the remaining matches of the league stage were moved to Pune, the Yellow brigade continued to shower their love for the team. All the fans & supporters traveled from Chennai to Pune to back their team that won the title 2018 against Sunrisers Hyderabad where Shane Watson scored a ton.
In 2019, the final played between Chennai Super Kings & Mumbai Indians saw a blazing inning of 80 runs just off 59 balls, even as he was finally outdone by the winning side. Further an evening later, his team-mate Harbhajan Singh commented that Watson kept batting while he had a bloody knee. Despite CSK losing that match, Watson will be remembered for his brave innings for a longer span. After the match, he took six stitches on the knee that he injured when he made a dive during the game.
Ricky Ponting & Sachin Tendulkar, two of the G.O.A.T of the game, opened for Mumbai Indians against Royal Challenger's Bangalore on 4th April 2013, in the 6th season of the IPL. That game was a memorable sight for most of the fans as they witnessed the combination of the two legends from Australia & India stepped out on the pitch playing for the same team. Cherry on the cake was when Sachin hit a straight drive to Muttiah Muralitharan, the man who has clinched 1,347 international scalps to his name.
Deccan Chargers v Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 5 (2012) is hands down one of the IPL's most memorable matches. Mr.360 – AB de Villiers & one of the fiercest bowlers in the world Dale Steyn went head-to-head in a heated contest. Dale Steyn was constantly bowling over 90mph that day. But AB de Villiers smashed 47 just off 17 deliveries which had 5 four's & 3 sixes in it, hooking every bouncer's and dismissing slower balls out of the park. The game was wrapped with 7 balls to spare and Steyn couldn't help but applaud and gave AB de Villiers a smirk.
The 2012 match played between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors on the 23rd of April witnessed two storms in a day. First, the rainstorm that interrupted the game for 33 minutes & then the storm unleashed by the 'Universal Boss -Christopher Henry Gayle'. He shattered numerous records in the match, also including the fastest century & the highest score in a T20 match. Gayle whacked 175 runs staying not-out in mere 66 balls. He sent the ball flying out of the boundary line for a whopping 17 sixes- most by any batsman in a T20 innings.
