Beta-Alanine is a non-essential amino acid that is not used for protein formation, unlike other amino acids. In fact, it helps in producing carnosine with the help of histidine (an amino acid). Carnosine acts as the buffer and helps in reducing the acidity in the muscles during high-intensity activities. During intense physical activities, muscles break down sugars into lactic acid which causes acidity in the muscles. This muscle acidosis causes early fatigue during physical activities. Hence, Beta-Alanine as mentioned above plays a major role in reducing this muscle acidity and delaying fatigue. Beta-Alanine is also shown to increase the time to exhaustion during any physical activity which helps in increasing the stamina. It also helps in increasing exercise capacity and muscle endurance. Beta-Alanine also helps in muscle recovery and the growth of lean muscle mass.
