For India, and its 1.7 billion people the number 21 has a newfound significance. It is the number of days the country shall be under lockdown, in an attempt to contain the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19.
So, we can ask ourselves what we can do with this newly gained time at home (other than following preventive measures, of course) -what can we do in these 21 days? Which life-enriching habit can we gradually develop? The old saying goes ' it takes 21 days to form a habit'. Now although the mission contained in the saying is positive and enriches one’s life, let’s take a look at the truth behind how long it takes to ingrain a habit in an individual.

A plastic surgeon from New York in the 1950’s noticed a pattern amongst his patients. The doctor then turned this into a book, which sold 30 million copies. Now although he has a general truth that could perhaps be attached to this statement. It by no means is a verifiable claim that can be presumed to work on all people all the time. However, the kernel of truth that remains is that it really only takes 3 weeks for old habits to transform into new ones if you really wish to do so, that is.

What It Really Takes to Build a New Habit?
