Weight Loss And Liquid Diet

Losing Weight is a very common goal. Whether for health or appearance, many are searching for the ideal weight loss program.

One category of weight loss diet emphasizes the consumption of liquids, rather than solid foods. Some programs simply replace certain meals with liquids, while others replace all solid foods with liquids.

Liquid diets can work, like any diet that gives you fewer calories than you use. These diets also can help by taking the guesswork out of portion control. But the results may not last. When you drastically cut calories, your metabolism slows to save energy. Unless you change your eating habits, you're likely to regain the weight you lost after you go off the liquid diet.

Ideally, liquid diet drinks should give you a balance of nutrients you need throughout the day, but that isn't always the case.

The diet is further categorized into:

  • Meal Replacements: Some liquid diets involve meal replacement shakes, which are consumed in place of solid food. They are designed to contain all the nutrients your body needs to function.
  • Detox Diet: Other liquid diets include detox diets or cleanses, which require the consumption of certain juices or drinks that supposedly remove toxic substances from your body.
  • Medically Prescribed Diets: Clear liquid diets only allow the consumption of clear liquids, such as water, apple juice, tea, certain sports drinks, and broths. These diets may be prescribed before or after certain surgeries or if you have digestive problems. Full-liquid diets are prescribed for similar reasons, but they are less restrictive than clear-liquid diets.

Note: If you are comfortable, you can go on a detox diet for a day. But for weight loss, it is best to go on a meal replacement diet, where you will get the benefits of solid food as well as liquid juices/broths. Stay away from the medically prescribed liquid diet – it’s not for weight loss.

Who Should Avoid Liquid Diet?

Though the liquid diet is good for weight loss, it should be avoided by:

        -Pregnant and lactating women

        -Children

-Older adults (unless the doctor recommended)
