Ronit More- Discusses The Power of Resilience, Injury, Diet and Rahul Dravid’s Mentorship

You wake up, go to practice and realize you are challenging 3 experienced bowlers who are in the form of their lives. You put your ego aside and feel it’s simply limiting your game time. You make a really bold move and switch allegiance, and try to play for a different Ranji team but after a few days you get injured. It’s too much for a 23-year old to handle but not Karnataka cricketer Ronit More didn’t give up.

These are the kind of things that can make or break you. These are the times when your character is tested. These are the times that show how much something means to you and how far you are willing to go to achieve your dreams.

When you love doing something you want to do it as soon as possible. That’s what happened with More. It took him 3-4 months to recover from the golfer's elbow and just when he felt he had recovered fully he had a tennis elbow. He was out for the whole season and the next season he returned to Karnataka.

He said he is thankful to the Karnataka board that they accepted him. He played local games, performed there and got back into the team. However, he still had to wait for his chance to blossom as R Vinay Kumar, Sreenath Arvind and Abhimanyu Mithun were in scintillating forms.

He said that the injury in 2015 had taught him important lessons at an early age. He stopped thinking too far. He ensured he stayed in the present. He said he just needed back to back games to show what he could do and he got the real breakthrough when Aravind retired after 2017-18 season to make way for the youngsters.

It didn’t take Ronit too long to impress. In the very next season, Ronit showed what was missing. He finished the season with 37 wickets from 8 games, picking up 5-wicket hauls on 4 times and 4-wicket hauls two times. He tried his best but even a 6-wicket haul in the semi-final could not help Karnataka reach the final.

Dravid mentoring the kid again

It was indeed Indian legend Rahul Dravid’s golden piece of advice that motivated More to shift bases in 2015 before the unfortunate injury. There’s no denying the contribution of Dravid to Indian cricket and he tried to help the young lad from his state.

You can’t prepare for injuries

More said that the injury was really frustrating, more mental than physical. He said that he could do everything except something he loves most- bowling. He could run, go to the gym, train for other things but he couldn’t bowl.

When asked how cautious he is now with the injuries, More said you can try everything but you can’t control injuries. You can only do what’s in your hand but have to have the serenity to accept the things that you cannot change and the courage to change the things you can.

He said every player tries his best to stay fit and train in a way that we can avoid the injuries but the mishaps come from unknown direction.

Training

More said every player has a unique training program designed by the physios and other officials. During the off-season, More generally has just 2 sessions of actual bowling practice in a week. The focus is more on fitness than skill. There are gym sessions on alternate days.

Diet

More is not much into supplements and tries to avoid junk and sugar as much as possible. He eats food rich in protein and carbs. He focuses more on eating normal food like roti, chicken, rice, etc.

He also takes a product from nutritional company Fast&Up. He says the Fast&Up products have helped him a lot. He says one needs an energy drink while working out or while playing games or training. It helps you revitalize, recover and sustain for longer in the game.

More urged everyone to stay fit and healthy and lookout after their bodies. He said nobody should ignore the importance of diet and fitness in daily life.
