We all know Chennai Super Kings is one amongst the foremost dominating teams in the history of the Indian Premier League having won three titles already.
The IPL 2020 season is about to kickstart in the UAE scheduled from September 19 and will carry on till the 10th of November. The 13th edition of this tournament was primarily slated to begin on 29th March but the cash-rich t20 tournament was considerably postponed due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic. As the IPL 2020 is inching closer, teams are turning no stone unturned to prepare themselves for this cricket carnival.
Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful franchises in the IPL bagging 3 titles to their name. The bright yellow jersey has played 8 IPL finals. They also hold the record for the most appearances in the playoffs (10) of the IPL. MS Dhoni and his troops have also lifted the Champions League T20 trophy twice (2010 & 2014). One of the pillars of the CSK's success story has been their bowling attack.
Let's have a look at CSK's top 5 wicket-takers of all-time :
The medium-pacer from Haryana made his way into international cricket via breakthroughs for CSK. He was picked by the yellow team for the 2013 IPL season after an impressive Ranji Trophy season (2012-13). He proved his flair in his debut season itself. In IPL 2013, the medium-pacer grabbed 20 wickets in 15 matches at an economy of 6.43 runs per over. He also won the purple cap in 2014 for his 23 wickets from 16 matches. He had become MS Dhoni's go-to bowler for death-overs during his CSK stint. He surprised a lot of batsmen with his slower ones & cutters.
Albie Morkel's 28-run over against Virat Kohli in IPL 2012 will remain his most memorable feat but the South African all-rounder delivered a similar performance with the ball. He was known to swing the ball in both ways in crucial overs. Albie played an important role in frontline seamer for CSK during the initial few years of the IPL. He was not only a reliable bowler but an explosive batsman who helped CSK reach the finish-line in next-to-impossible situations.
Coined as the 'Rockstar' by Shane Warne, Ravindra Jadeja's best performing years in the IPL were spent at Chennai Super Kings. In 2012 Jadeja was bought for 2 million dollars, making him the most expensive buy for that year. 'Sir Jadeja' has been a crucial part of the team since he was on-boarded by this franchise in 2012. The southpaw gained his name & a lot of attraction for his disciplined bowling and quick over-rate. This Saurashtra boy often came into the picture and chipped in with needed breakthroughs during middle and death overs.
The local hero of Chennai Super Kings & one of India's premier off-spinner made his IPL debut in this yellow outfit back in 2009. He kept rising the ranks during his stretch with CSK. MS Dhoni showed immense support & backed him up by giving the responsibility to bowl with the new ball. He also stood up to all the expectations as he delivered on most of the nail-biting occasions. He has a key role in the CSK's trophy-winning campaigns in 2010 & 2011.
Dwayne Bravo became a part of CSK in 2011 and since then has been instrumental with his heroics in CSK's success. The West Indian all-rounder has bagged 104 wickets from 89 matches for CSK. Bravo has been MS Dhoni's wingman for years now. Bravo bowls with a lot of variation and is very unpredictable with his deliveries. His most lethal weapons are his slow yorkers. His ability to bowl at the death overs with the accurate line & length is what separates him from the others. He's also won the Purple Cap award in the year 2013 & 2015.
