Significance of hosting Olympics 2021 for Tokyo, Japan - Fast&Up

Bidding for Tokyo being the host city to conduct the 2020 Summer Olympics happened way back in 2013. Since then Japan has been doing everything it can to make Tokyo Olympics 2021 a giant success.

2020’s delay in conducting the Olympics due to the pandemic has already cost Japan huge amounts of money. Further delay or cancellation would double the estimated losses.

Last successful Olympics held in Japan was in 1964 and the Japanese government is obviously keen on reprising the glory once again if not supersede it. The Tokyo 2021 Olympics is not only important to honour Japan’s prestige and celebrate it’s strength but also to lift national and global spirits that have plummeted during the pandemic.

The clock is ticking. We are precisely close to 30 days for the 2021 summer Olympic games to begin. The pandemic led to the postponement last year and a lot of parties have been debating about the risk and likelihood of things going wrong. But the IOC is the one that has the authority to pull the plug off and they have agreed to move ahead with it unless a major Armageddon hits, said one of the IOC members.

The first record of the Olympics traced back to 776 B.C. when Greece was gripped by internal strife and infectious diseases. Sporting events have been organized in the past with the idea of restoring peace and overcoming wars and epidemics.

Looking at the state of affairs today, we seem to be at a critical juncture in the history of humankind once again. But this time we have cutting-edge technology to support us and set an example for an epidemic-proof Olympics for tomorrow.

The ancient Olympics gave people a sense of unity, that they were all Greeks, and it's likely that this Olympics will send across the same message that us humans are united at the face of challenges that threatens its very existence.
