Road Safety World Series Finale - Fast&Up

Indian Legends won the inaugural season of Road Safety World Series,2021 by beating Sri Lanka Legends by 14 runs on the back of powerful performances by Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan. The tournament was played between 6 teams out of which India and Sri Lanka went against each other in the finals of what was a kind of encore of the much memorable 2011 World Cup Final.

Here’s what happened on the nights of Final –

Toss & Team News –

Sri Lankan Captain Dilshan won the toss for the eight consecutive time in the tournament and invited India to bat first. Sri Lanka made no change to their playing 11 which took the field in the semi-finals. Their line-up was star-stunned with Dilshan, Jayasuriya, Tharanga, Herath and Kulasekara in the side. Whereas, Indian Legends opted for one change and included Badrinath to further bolster their batting which already had batting maestros like Sachin, Sehwag, Yuvraj and Yusuf Pathan among others.

Steady Start by Indian Team –

Team India made a steady start as they were looking to lay a solid foundation for the big hitters to come and create havoc at the later stage of their innings. They lost a couple of wickets early but Yuvraj and Sachin steadied the Indian-ship by playing some watchful cricket yet scoring at a good pace. Sri Lankan bowlers were bowling tight lines and didn’t let India run ahead in the first half of the innings.

Big Final Flourish –

Yusuf Pathan and Yuvraj Singh joined hands in the middle of 11th over where India’s score was 78-3. Yuvraj was already set and Yusuf joined the party as both started to hit the ball to all the corners of the ground. Yuvraj (60 off 41 balls) and Yusuf (62 off 36 balls) had a match defining partnership which gave India the needed impetus as India finished their quota of 20 overs at 181-4, a total which looked a match-winning one especially considering the pressure of Finals.

Sri Lanka’s Brave Fightback –

After India had posted a competitive score on the board, it was on Sri Lankan openers to give their side a good start to chase down the total and they didn’t disappoint. Captain Dilshan and Jayasuriya took the team’s score to 61-0 at the end of 7 overs. This partnership had kept Sri Lanka in the game while India too were in the match as the bowlers managed to keep both the batsmen quiet in the power play overs.

The Pathan Brothers Show –

Just when the Sri Lankan openers were starting to look threatening and looking to take the game away from India, Sachin introduced Pathan brothers into the attack and both of them combined to apply breaks on the Lankan innings. First Yusuf got Sri Lankan captain Dilshan out caught behind and Irfan scalped another wicket in the next over to push the opponents further back in the chase. Both brothers accounted for 2-wickets each and contributed immensely to the Indian victory.

Nail-Biting Finish –

After the fall of 4th wicket, Jayasinghe and Weeraratne stitched a crucial 64 run partnership to bring some hope to Sri Lankan side as at a point they needed 30 off 12 balls. However, Indian pace trio of Gony, Munaf and Vinay kept their nerves in the later stages of the match and ensured India emerged victorious in this evenly-contested finals. The death bowling was at its best and Sri Lanka could only manage 167-7 falling 14 runs short of Indian Total
