IPL 2020: First Match Preview (MI vs CSK)

IPL 2020 to begin with defending champions Mumbai V Chennai on September 19th.

IPL 2020: First Match Preview (MI vs CSK)
The Defending Champions Mumbai Indians and three-time winners Chennai Super Kings will feature in the season-opening clash of IPL 2020 in Abu Dhabi which will be a repeat of the 2019 Final. A CSK-MI clash is the best fitting way to get this season off-the-mark, for these are the 2 most dominating & successful franchises in the IPL. Last year Mumbai defeated Chennai in a nail-biting thriller by just 1 run to clinch their IPL trophy for a record fourth time. The 2020 edition of the tournament postponed from its standard spring slot because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, will be completely hosted in the United Arab Emirates
Mumbai Indians still have the core of the team that lead them to a victory last year. On the other-side where Chennai Super Kings will be missing Suresh Raina in his absence for the entire season, they also have retained a few big names who helped them establish the CSK brand & set a benchmark – will continue to don the bright yellow jersey.
Well, Mumbai Indians have been perpetual poor starters; Rohit Sharma & company will be eyeing to set that record right while Thala Dhoni and his team must be setting themselves for a flying start and maintain their high win percentage.

WHEN:

19 September 2019, 7:30 pm (IST)

WHERE:

Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Batsmen to look for:

While Rohit Sharma is central to Mumbai Indian's batting plans, keep an eye out for Quinton De Kock & Chris Lynn who will most likely be opening the batting for MI. Hardik Pandya can be handy in the middle overs and has proven to be one of the best finishers of the modern-day cricket.
Chennai Super Kings will feel a big void in their batting line up due to the absence of Suresh Raina as he's the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL after Virat Kohli. Among others, Faf du Plessis & Shane Watson will most likely be opening the batting for CSK, and MS Dhoni (Captain), who according to coach Stephen Fleming 'will play more of a vital role as batsman & finisher' will be the ones to keep a close watch on.

Bowlers to look for:

Trent Boult & Jasprit Bumrah (MI), and Dwayne Bravo & Imran Tahir (CSK) are the aces from both the teams who are likely to cause large-scale damage with the ball. It will be interesting for both the teams to see how they utilize the spell of 8 overs from these bowlers. CSK will pin their hopes high on Bravo, to keep the opposition on a strict leash with his slower ones, especially in the death overs.
