India won their 5th and final T20 against West Indies in Guyana by 61 runs and sealed the series 5-0. A splendid 100 runs partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Veda Krishnamurthy was all it took for India women to get the game on their side, followed by Anuja Patil’s breathtaking bowling spell (3-1-3-2).

The Winning streak continued as soon as India won the toss and choose to bat. The team had an off start though, where Smriti and shafali were sent back to the pavilion within 3.1 overs, giving the Windies a hope of win as they had a 17/2 score too soon. However, it was then Rodrigues and Krishnamurthy came in together and reduced the milestone by putting 117 runs on board by 17th over.

Jemimah scored 50 off 56 which included three boundaries and Veda scored 57 off 48 balls not out. Despite a slow pitch, Veda’s four boundaries help India reach 134 in 20 overs, something that seemed challenging for the Windies. However, West Indies were at a similar position as India with a score of 13 for 2 getting off Natasha McLean and Kyshona Knight too soon.

It was Shemaine Campbelle alone who struggles to remain not out on 19 off 23 but her only effort couldn’t stand strong against the Indian spinners. Anuja bagged 3 wickets, whereas Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav, and Harleen Deol picked a wicket each to put a halt to the hosts. The climax for the Caribbean was worse as they had only 73 runs in 20 overs, with a loss of seven wickets.

Overall, it was a good tour for the blues, who lost the opening ODI by one run but had the rest of the series in a winning note. They won the ODI series 2-1 and T20 5-0.
Brief scores: India women 134/3 (Veda Krishnamurthy 57*, Jemimah Rodrigues 50; Hayley Matthews 1/23) beat West Indies women 73/7(Kyshona Knight 22, Shemaine Campbelle 19; Anuja Patil 2/3) by 61 runs.
