Before Getting Vaccinated for COVID-19 - Fast&Up

Are you planning to take the COVID-19 vaccine soon? Here are 8 important steps to take before your vaccination appointment to make sure that everything goes smoothly and effectively.

1. Register Yourself

Registration for the vaccine on the Co-Win Website or via Aarogya Setu App is a must, without which you could be denied the vaccination. Keep your identification documents ready and carry them to your vaccination centre along with the registration slip.
For those with comorbidities, carry your doctor’s prescription to the vaccination center.

2. Don’t get any other vaccine at the same time as COVID-19 vaccine

If you have recently received any other vaccine, wait for at least 14 days before getting your COVID-19 vaccine. Additionally, wait for at least 14 days after your COVID-19 vaccine, before getting any other vaccine, including a flu vaccine.

3. Do not go for vaccination on an empty stomach

Have a healthy, filling, balanced meal rich in protein, fibres, and healthy fats before going for vaccination. You might have to wait for your turn and staying hungry can increase fatigue and weakness or can result in low blood sugar that could cause fainting.

Keep yourself thoroughly hydrated before taking the vaccine. If you are dehydrated, you may experience dizziness and constipation which would compound any mild side effects from the vaccine.

5. Sleep Well

It is advised to get a minimum of 6-7 hours of sleep on the night prior to your vaccination appointment. Being well rested helps your immune system work to its full potential.

6. Avoid Consumption of Alcohol

Avoid consumption of alcohol before the vaccination as it can trigger dehydration or intensify the possible side effects of the vaccine. Alcohol is also said to increase stress on the immune system and thus, should be avoided.

7. Wear Appropriate Clothes

Wear clothes that can give easy access to the upper arm where the vaccine is to be administered. Make sure you use your non-dominant arm for the vaccination.

8. Follow Necessary Precautions

Make sure you remember to carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer when going for the vaccination. Wear a proper fitted mask or wear double masks ( surgical mask + cloth mask) and maintain 6 feet distance from other individuals at all times.
