5 Replacements to Watch Out for in 2nd phase of IPL 2021

IPL 2021 Halfway Stage

The phase 2 of most awaited carnival and Indian festival begins. There have been multiple pullouts as well before the league begins due various reasons such as mental health issues caused by bio-bubble fatigue and injuries. There are over 15 players who have withdrawn from the tournament. This withdrawal has resulted in benefiting new faces to showcase their skill and make an impact that could change their careers. RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) has the most replacements with 5 pullouts and joining them are Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Punjab Kings with 4 and 3 withdrawals each.

Here we enlist 5 replacements to watch out for in phase 2 of IPL:

1. Wanindu Hasaranga: The Sri-Lanka's new spin sensation gets an opportunity into RCB led by Virat Kohli with his heroic performance at recently concluded series with India. He has been a rock solid performer for the Sri-Lankan team and given the recent performances, he is one of the player everyone would have an eye on.

2. Glenn Phillips: The New-Zealand batsman has been in ridiculously great form when it comes to batting performances. He has scored 3998 runs in 144 T20s with 4 centuries and 25 half-centuries. Though replacing Jofra Archer is a huge task and he would surely be missed by Rajasthan Royals, Phillips has a great chance to make an impact and be a vital player for RR in this second phase of IPL.

3. Tabraiz Shamsi for Adrew Tye: Quite strange that the no.1 ranked bowler in T20 was bought in as replacement. This shows how difficult the standard are for the league. Shamsi replaces Andrew Tye for RR. Shamsi will look to spin the web with RR as they try to qualify for playoff spots.

4. Evin Lewis for Jos Buttler: This is perfect like to like replacement made by Rajasthan Royals. Ewin Lewis is an experienced player in T20s and IPL with his previous stint at Mumbai Indians. The West Indies player can score quick runs just like Buttler and can change the course of the game entirely. If the man from Caribbean clicks, RR might look at securing their 2nd IPL title and finally ending the trophy drought.

5. Aiden Markram for Dawid Malan: Replacing the No.1 T20s batsman in the world is not an easy task by any means. Just hours after Malan pulled out, Aiden Markram replaced him. Markram has been in superb form of late and smashing runs for the South African side recently. Punjab Kings will hope that he carries the same form to the 2nd phase of IPL as well.

With this our 5 replacements to watch ends. There are certainly other quality replacements as well, such as:

  • Adil Rashid for Jhye Richardson
  • Tim Southee for Pat Cummins
  • Sherfane Rutherford for Jonny Bairstow
  • Oshane Thomas for Ben stokes
  • Akash Deep for Washington Sundar
