My Sport

Running

What I love about my Sport -

I love running on the roads to smell the fresh air, to explore surroundings, new trails and new routes, meeting new runners and the feel of crossing the finish line st any marathon which makes me feel like a queen and top of the world. The fellow runners and friends cheering the high of wearing the medal.

What got me started (How the journey began)

I was introduced to running in 2014 by a friend, who introduced me to a running group- Gurgaon Road Runners. Within 6 months I escalated from 1km to 5km, to 10km, to 21km and now I run 42km and transformed into an ultra-runner.

My fitness mantra

Fitness mantra- no one starts as an ultra-runner, one has to work their way up. Day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year, one should keep getting better and better. Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines. But it is to the one that endures that finally victory comes. So be patient and be consistent.

Biggest sport challenge

The biggest sport challenge of my life was the Full marathon at Ladakh last year in 2018. I had to be well acclimatised and went through a gruelling training for 3 months which included hill repeats, tempo runs, intervals and LSDs. The last 3 kms of the marathon will full inclines and my hamstrings had given up. But the thought of joy in crossing the finish line at 11,104 ft altitude is what kept me motivated and going. Also in year 2014 I had developed s knee pain and when I showed myself to the doctors I was diagnosed arthritis. This was a big setback for me and I ran my first HM with a knee pad and was asked by my doctor to give up running. It was only and only becaus of my passion for the sport and mental strength that I could fight all odds and progressed every day. Since last 3 years I am off any medication and never ever ran with a knee pad after 2014. Consistency dedication compassion and mental strength that’s all it takes.

Favourite sport memory

Completing my first half marathon is my favourite sports memory. The joy of completing 21 kms from 1 km and crossing the finishing line is unmatched. Being an Ultra runner now I still cherish the moments of my first HM because it gave me the confidence to believe that mental strength is what it takes to achieve anything one desires for.

What i'd like to share with fellow fitness enthusiasts -

Believe that your personal aspirations are important as is your well-being so take care of your nutrition and your health and body.

My favoriteFast&Up fuel -

Fast&up energy Gels, Activate, Reload, Recover, fortify, Vitalize, BCAA

What my normal training day looks like --

I wake up at 5. Hit the road by 6 and I am done with my training by 7:30 be it Tempo run, Hill repeats, Intervals or LSDs followed by stretching thrice a week. I hit the gym thrice a week for strength training. My day is incomplete without my workout. It’s a must fuel to keep me going for the day.

Favourite place to train

Roads, trails, hills, with lots of greenery and fresh air.

My everyday fitness diet

This includes more of proteins mineral and fiber. I start my day with fast&up activate and a fruit post my run or workout eggs in any form or oats or any cereal followed by fruits mainly apple and pomagranade. Dal, vegetables, yogurt, coconut water, salads, dry fruits during the day. I avoid carbs at night so it’s generally chicken or seafood with veggies also soup at times. In my hydration I add Fast&up Fortify, Vitalize and Fast&up Charge.

My fitness inspiration

All my fellow runners and fitness enthusiasts are my inspiration. The one thing that inspires me the most is to do better than before and keep woking hard to achieve it and the feeling to never ever outrun the joy of running because I believe one gets what one focuses on, so focus on what you want and keep going.

My biggest motivator

I am addicted to the entire euphoria related to running. The joy of crossing the finishing line is unmatched and thats what motivates me to do better and scale higher. The whole feeling of being alive and running at new locations, explore the unexplored trails, new cities and new countries in the coming times is what motivates me.

What pushes me to the finish line?

I believe running or any form of workout is 100% mental. Your body won’t go where your mind doesn’t push it. So when I am almost giving up it’s that mental push and the joy which I had imagined at the start line is what makes me push to cross the finish line.

One goal that i'd like to achieve

I wish to run the AWMM - Abbott World Marathon Majors

Importance of sports nutrition in my life

Good nutrition is the source of energy to perform any sports activity. The food we eat impacts our strength, training, performance and recovery. Nutrition before, during and after my workout are most important in my day to day nutrition. Like intake of proper calcium, vitamins, proteins and minerals. I never neglect protein intake post my workout as it ensures proper muscle recovery.
